- It takes multiple attempts or several minutes to start your vehicle
- You lose the ability to lock and unlock your doors
- You can no longer set off the panic alarm
- A warning sign on your dashboard indicates there’s an issue with the charging system

Steps to Replace Your Mercedes-Benz Key Fob Battery

- Identify Your Key Type: Your vehicle with either have a newer Chrome SmartKey® or an older SmartKey®. Your key type dictates how the batteries will need to be changed.
- Purchase the Right Batteries: For the newer Chrome SmartKey®, you’ll need one CR 2025 battery. You’ll need two of these batteries for the older SmartKey®.
- SmartKey®: Start by pulling the latch at the end of the key holder, push your key horizontally into the open slot, and then lift the battery out of the compartment.
- Chrome SmartKey®: Pull the tab at the bottom, remove the cover by pushing the key into the narrow end of the slot. Then, place the battery inside.
