Advanced Safety

When it comes to safety, both of these models come standard with a rearview camera, traction control, stability control, antilock brakes, and a full suite of airbags. However, only the Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes standard with front pelvic airbags and a driver knee airbag. If it’s advanced driver assistance features you’re looking for, here, too, will you find a variety of technologies shared by both models, ranging from adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring to forward collision warning and mitigation. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands apart from the pack, though, by offering unique and innovative safety solutions like PRESAFE® Sound, which prepares you ears for the loud sound of a collision, as well as PRESAFE® impulse side, which is able to detect an imminent collision and inflate the inside of the front outboard seat bolsters.

Standard Torque Output

Both of these midsize luxury sedans put a serious emphasis on comfort and luxury, but that doesn’t mean performance doesn’t enter into the equation. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5 Series both come standard with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine under the hood, as well as your pick of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. When it comes to torque output, however, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class takes the cake, able to create 273 lb-ft of torque compared to the BMW 5 Series’ output of only 258 lb-ft of torque.
